Adrian Beltre better than Carl Crawford, for the LA Angels?
The winter Meetings have concluded and while there are still a good number of free agents left in the market, there is a struggle in the League to sign the best crop of stars from the remaining flock. One recent signing in the meetings has pointed a lot
of clubs towards good players in the agency and that is exactly how the meetings function in the off season period.
After the signings of Jayson Werth and Carl Crawford, the pack of sluggers is dwindling in the market. For the Los Angeles Angels, the chase has been tough. They were in a bid to sign down a big player this season but now things aren’t looking to well for
General Manager, Tony Reagins and the other management personnel in the clubhouse. There has been an effort to sign on an established player but the speculation isn’t getting a particular boost, as the team has ignored any questions relating to the off season
period.
However, many analysts believe that the side requires a third baseman, and one man in particular knows the position more than Carl Crawford. He’s been gaining up on a lot of experience and may play a major part in the Los Angeles line up. His name’s known
to many clubs and he has drawn a lot of attention from the Oakland athletics. He’s none other than Adrian Beltre. The former Boston Red Sox third baseman is still in search for a new contract and it seems he will get one, since Scott Boras represents him in
the market. Beltre is being probed by a lot of teams and the Oakland Athletics are particularly interested in the hitter. Boras recently gave an update on the negotiations front. He said, "That's a very busy market for Adrian. We're in the middle of a lot
of negotiations with a lot of teams for him, and they're ongoing."
In terms of hits and at bats, there isn’t any much of a difference between Beltre and Crawford, last season. However, Carl takes the advantage in scoring runs and position play. Where Carl has a fielding advantage, Beltre doesn’t seem to stand out. However
Adrian packs a wild punch in the batting position and he’s an established player, in the hitting order. In terms of batting, Adrian excels in RBIs (Runs Batted In), home runs, slugging percentage, on base percentage and most importantly, batting average.
So the question remains. Can the Angels sign on Beltre for the coming campaign?
