Adrian Beltre helps Texas Rangers defeat Kansas City Royals 5-4 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers stormed back into a nerve-shattering game to defeat Kansas City Royals 5-4 at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City on Wednesday, May 18.
It was Adrian Beltre who turned the tides against Royals in the eleventh inning with a two-run single. To seal the victory, Mark Lowe pitched an effective inning, giving up one hit and a run to reduce the Royals to four.
"You have to focus on that at-bat," said Beltre, who also had an RBI grounder earlier. "You can't think about you missed a couple of opportunities early. You've got a chance to redeem yourself there. You forget about what happened earlier."
The game began with Kansas City going for early hits. While the first inning had gone scoreless, the second brought no less than two runs for Kansas City. Alexi Ogando, who has been unbeatable throughout this season, gave up three hits and two runs in the
second inning.
Chris Getz was the first to score, as he hit a single to left centre to open the account for Kansas City. Alcides Escobar followed and doubled the lead. Escobar singled to centre to make it 2-0 for his team. Beltre brought the Royals’ lead down in the next
inning when Danny Duffy came out to pitch for the Royals. Beltre’s single gave the Rangers their first run, bringing the lead down 2-1.
Andres Blanco of the Rangers, levelled the score 2-2 in the fourth inning with his brilliant single. Elvis Andrus then gave Texas a 3-2 lead in the 9th inning which was levelled once again by the Royals’ Eric Hosmer. With the score at 3-3, the
game had entered a critical phase.
It was at this time that Beltre not only broke the tie but also got a 5-3 lead for the Rangers with his two-run single. The game was effectively in the hands of Texas. Lowe made it official by pitching an effective inning, having allowed only one hit and
one run that left the Royals trailing behind by one run, giving a 5-4 victory to Texas.
