Adrian Beltre injury highlights Michael Young role for Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers are hard at work in Surprise, Arizona. The players are working every minute of the day, trying to get into high gear for the upcoming 2011 Major League Season.
However, recent news broke through the surface, yesterday. Adrian Beltre is declared unfit for contention in the Cactus League due to a calf injury sustained during workouts on fielding ground balls.
A MRI scan wasn’t able to reveal much but the strain on the calf region has made one thing very clear to the Rangers. That happens to be the usefulness of having Michael Young in the squad as a super substitute for an infield position. While Beltre claims
he can do well with the bat, the player is of now of use on the defensive role.
"Nobody wants to be hurt, especially in spring training", Beltre said. "But if you want to look at the positive side, it's better to happen now than in the season. We're still going to have enough time to get healthy 100 percent and be ready to break camp
healthy".
The player had taken part in morning drills with the rest of the roster. He even took up batting practices in the cage. He jogged on the treadmill before he indicated a problem with his calf. The player recently joined the Rangers on a six-year deal worth,
$96 million.
"When it first happened, it didn't seem like anything serious", said Beltre. "I was able to do everything else but running. Yesterday, taking ground balls, it started going back to when it first happened. It was sore".
The Rangers are not trying to force Beltre back into action but if he’s able to take part in some of the 17 games that will be played before the regular season, progress could be made. Adrian can also feature in Minor Leagues during March to gain some At

Washington said that if Adrian was healthy, he would find out sooner rather than later. In the end, he stated that Beltre would have to be healthy.
