Adrian Beltre sparks as Texas Rangers edge past Atlanta Braves, 5-4: MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ third baseman, Adrian Beltre, displayed an extraordinary performance with the bat as he went 1-for-5 and hit a decisive RBI in the 10th inning to give the Rangers a 5-4 victory against the Atlanta Braves at the Turner Field, Atlanta,
on June 18.
The Rangers opened their scoring account in the very first inning by contributing two runs and took an initial 2-0 lead. Elvis Andrus singled to right field of the diamond and Ian Kinsler moved to the second base to score a single run for his team. The second
run for the Rangers was taken by Andrus when Josh Hamilton reached at the first base on the throwing error of the Braves’ first baseman, Freddie Freeman.
In the second inning, the batters were unable to put runs on the score-board as the pitchers maintained their perfect line. Both the teams added two runs to their score-cards during the third inning. Hamilton occupied the second base for one run, when Andrus
stole the home plate. Michael Young singled to centre field of the diamond and Hamilton added a single run for the Rangers.
On the other side, the Braves’ batters broke the silence of their fans by scoring two runs. Derek Lowe posted the initial run for his team, when Jordan Schafer moved to second base on the throwing error of the Rangers’ left-fielder, Nelson Cruz. The second
run was taken by Schafer on a double-run shot of Dan Uggla towards left-field. The score-board moved to 4-2 at the end of third inning.
In the fourth and fifth inning, the pitchers delivered curveballs and restricted the scoring runs of the batters. The Rangers’ starter, Matt Harrison, threw superbly as he pitched 6 1/3 innings with an ERA of 3.16 and gave just three runs on three hits.
He struck out six batters and allowed only one walk on his 102 pitches.
During the sixth inning, the Braves’ batters added one run to reduce their lead 4-3 when Brian McCann struck a solo homer (369 feet) towards the right field. Seventh inning passed without any run, but the game was tied at 4-4 in the eighth inning, when Schafer
contributed one run on the drive of Uggla to deep centre field.
No score was added in the ninth inning, but the Rangers went ahead by 5-4 in the 10th inning when Beltre singled to centre field and Kinsler scored a single run.
