Adrian Beltre strengthens the offence as Texas Rangers defeat Oakland Athletics 7-2 – MLB Update
Adrian Beltre invigorated the offence as the Texas Rangers defeated the Oakland Athletics 7-2 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Tuesday, May 10.
Beltre struck a two-run homer to attain the victory for the Rangers coupled with an equally good performance by Colby Lewis. He successfully pitched eight innings to seal an emphatic win for the Rangers.
However, the game was dominated by Beltre’s two-run homer. “It worked,” Beltre said. "If that's going to work, I'll be happy to be hitting sixth. I don't make up the lineup. I just hope I'm going to be in there -- it doesn't matter where I hit. The lineup
worked, so we'll probably do it again."
The team manager must have felt relieved as the offence had been struggling, especially after the series against the Yankees. “He was still feeling good," Washington said. "He wanted to come back out. He came off the field and went back in the cage and kept
his arm going. He looked good and strong."
Texas was dominant since the start of the game. Even though the first three innings went scoreless, Mike Napoli opened the account for the Rangers. Oakland’s Brett Anderson, gave up three hits in the fourth inning and allowed two runs. Craig Gentry scored
the second run.
It was in the fifth inning that Beltre showed his magic. Anderson was subject to a big hit as Beltre homered to left-centre. The brilliant hit earned him an amazing two-run homer. This took the lead to 4-0. Napoli was next with his single to deep centre.
The lead, by the end of fifth inning was 5-0.
Cliff Pennington scored the first run for Oakland in the sixth inning. However, just when the Athletics thought they could make a come-back in the game, Michael Young scored a two-run homer to take the score to 7-1 for Texas.
Conor Jackson scored the second run in the ninth inning, but that was too little too late to stop the Rangers from winning the game 7-2.
