Adrian Beltre tells reporters why he joined the Texas Rangers – MLB Playoffs
Adrian Beltre may not be as famous in the Texas Rangers’ line-up as much as Josh Hamilton is or Mike Napoli, but the third baseman is a mammoth when it comes to hitting. The former Boston Red Sox player talked to the reporters out of Rangers Ballpark in
Arlington on Wednesday, October 5. The infielder told the press why he made the choice of joining the Texas Rangers.
"It wasn't about money," Beltre said. "It was about winning. It was all about winning. Not just for one year -- for multiple years."
The club acquired Beltre during the 2010 off-season on a five-year $80-million contract. With a $16-million option for 2016, he is truly making his case for the long term. The player has a desire to wear a World Series ring and that has been something he
has been dreaming of since he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers at the age of 15.
The player is now on his way to the top stage and he is not looking to see his struggle go to waste. In 2011, Beltre piled on a batting average of .296 while he produced 32 home-runs, 105 RBIs, 82 runs and 144 hits. On Tuesday, October 4 he penalized the
Tampa Bay Rays in Game 4 of the American League Division Series with three solo home-runs against Matt Moore and Jeremy Hellickson.
The infielder always had the option to go back to the Red Sox last season but negotiations never went according to plan.
When choosing the right team Beltre asked himself, is the team focused on winning and does it have the right tools to maintain its run of success?
"I spent a lot of years in the big leagues with teams that weren't built to be in the playoffs," he said. "At this time in my career, I want to win. That's the most important thing to me."
Beltre is now ready to fire on any team that goes against him in the Championship series. It will be interesting to see how well he performs.
