Adrian Gonzalez looks forward to New York Yankees visit and rivalry at home
Back when Adrian Gonzalez was acquired by the Boston Red Sox in December, 2010, through a trade deal with the San Diego Padres, there was one thing he was looking forward to.
At his induction ceremony at Fenway Park, the hard hitter shared his desire immediately as he addressed the press.
"I'm very excited to be here in Boston. And I'm ready to beat the Yanks", Gonzalez said.
Now with less than 24 hours left on the card, Gonzalez is preparing to meet the New York Yankees at Fenway Park. Going into their first game at home, Gonzalez and the Red Sox are looking for a stage clearing performance that will get a lot of pressure off
their heads.
The hosts have yet to win a game in the new Major League Baseball campaign and with disappointing series against the Texas Rangers and the Cleveland Indians, manager Terry Francona is looking for the club’s first victory.
However winning at home is very difficult. The fans criticize the club, far too often and they tend to create a lot of pressure at the stadium.
"I believe that when you put those things that you mentioned, it only makes me more excited", Gonzalez said. "It only makes me want to play better every day. Those are the things that we all play for, and you'll see that those are the things that will make
me go out there and give it 100 percent like I have my whole career".
With a bad start to the season, there is a lot of burden on the team. However, is this Boston’s chance to unhinge their bad luck this time around? No one knows for sure.
"Pressure is something you put on yourself," said Gonzalez. "If you were to say that I have pressure, that's your perspective".
The former San Diego player cleared the air by saying that he is going to go out on the field to enjoy and have some fun. He affirmed that he will take pleasure in the fact that it will be a packed stadium and his goal will be to feed off that energy when
the Yankees come to Fenway Park.
