Adrian Gonzalez shines as Boston Red Sox beat Chicago Cubs, 15-5 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox’ first baseman, Adrian Gonzalez had an outstanding day with his bat as he went 4-for-6 with four RBIs in the Red Sox 15-5 victory against the Chicago Cubs at Fenway Park, Boston on May 20.
The Red Sox started their first inning in a winning fashion as the batters added two runs and led off the team 2-0. Jacoby Ellsbury hit an RBI single to score a run while Dustin Pedroia moved to third base on the throwing error of the Cubs’ catcher Koyie
Hill. The second run was taken by Pedroia when Gonzalez singled to left-field position.
The pitchers threw pretty well in the second inning and no score was added in it. Both teams scored two runs individually during the third inning to move the score-card, 4-2. Darwin Barney added the first run for the Cubs when Aramis Ramirez doubled to centre-field
position. Carlos Pena was grounded out to short-stop but Jeff Baker completed a single run.
Pedroia scored his second run on the sacrifice fly of Kevin Youkilis during the third inning. Jed Lowrie hit a single-run shot to left-field position and David Ortiz posted one run. Boston’s batters stepped on the gas in the fourth inning and contributed
four runs to take an 8-2 lead. Youkilis homered (398 feet) to left-field position and it was considered his eighth homer of the season. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Pedroia and Gonzalez each added one run in the fourth inning.
Saltalamacchia expressed his winning excitement as, "That's where we want to be. We know we've got a great team. There's no reason why we shouldn't be in first place right now. We want to be in first place and stay in first place the whole year.”
The fifth inning proved meaningful for both sides as the Cubs added three runs and the Red Sox contributed two runs in it. The score-board moved to 10-5 at the end of the fifth inning. No score was added in the sixth and seventh inning. The Red Sox’ batters
initiated the eighth inning with a blast and posted five runs in it to give their team a 15-5 lead. The ninth inning remained empty for both sides.
