Adrian Gonzalez shines as Boston Red Sox crush Chicago White Sox 5-1 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox crushed the Chicago White Sox 5-1 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Monday, July 16 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Bobby Valentine and company put up a brilliant show in a game that proved to be completely one sided. Beating the American League Central Division leaders, the Red Sox will be feeling very comfortable about themselves. However, this is not the time to take
the foot off the pedal.
The Red Sox will be looking to continue their impressive form throughout this series to grab one of the playoff spots.
Adam Dunn provided Chicago with an excellent start as he earned an RBI groundout to second in the first inning. Valentine and his men fought back immediately as Adrian Gonzalez singled to right and David Ortiz reached second to level the score.
"The place was pretty loud and rocking," Gonzalez said. "It was really cool. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone. I just wish it could have ended better and wish we could have won the game."
"It's exciting to come back to a ballpark I've known as home for a long time," Youkilis said before the game. "It's exciting to face some of my teammates that I've only faced in live BP."
"This isn't the last of Boston," Kevin Youkilis said. "I hope to do a lot of good things off the field."
In a game where runs were hard to come by, Gonzalez hit a three run home-run in the eighth to give the Red Sox complete control of the situation.
Mike Aviles also made his presence felt as he singled to right and Cody Ross added another vital run to make the score 5-1 in Boston’s favour.
Starting pitcher Aaron Cook had a great time on the mound as he put up another power show on Monday evening. Allowing just five hits and a run in seven solid innings, he played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash.
Relief pitcher Vicente Padilla grabbed his third inning of the season with a perfect eighth inning.
