Adrian Lam reigned in by Papua New Guinea - Rugby League News
Papua New Guinea (PNG) has announced the uptake of Adrian Lam, as their head coach on September 16.
Lam will reach home base to supervise the ongoing preparations for PNG’s two lined-up encounters. One of the matches is against the Australian Prime Minister's XIII in Lae next weekend, which will be followed by a Test match against Fiji the next month.
While speaking about his move to the PNG, Lam stated, "I am passionate about the Kumuls and the people of PNG. I am dedicated to making a difference to rugby league in the country."
Lam has undergone some changes in PNG’s squad with a latest recruit of Ray Thompson for the game against Australia.
Last year, Lam stepped down from the same position at PNG, just ahead of the Four Nations Series 2010.When this news was disclosed, the reason behind the coach’s quit was not disclosed. However, the news in speculation was that the step was taken because
of the internal rift within the club. This has been believed that way, as the coach issued a plea in May to the PNG Rugby League (PNGRL) to put an end to the internal “bickering and politicking” or else they might lose him.
Just in-line with the expectations, the PNG announced Lam’s resignation, which was inevitable.
Lam had joined in as the PNG’s coach in 2006 and he stayed there until 2010, when he decided to step down from the position last year. In 2009, he was assistant coach under Wayne Bennett at the St. George Illawarra Dragons.
While speaking about his coaching preferences, in a TV show, Lam said that he will happily quit his job at Dragons if he gets an offer to coach his former club, Wigan Warriors in the European Super League.
The news about Lam’s move as the head coach of the St George from 2012 onwards was already in speculation for quite some time. This has been intercepted by his return to ex-club.
