Adrian Lewis enters European Darts Open under pressure, “The Jackpot” needs a win!
The European Darts Open brings darts magic July 6. The countdown has begun and the bets are on as the darts showdown ignites in Europe.
The all-star event in Europe has much more to it than just ‘darts’.
This tournament holds the future of world number 2 Adrian Lewis. His misery is not calling for a stop and his global rank is in danger for the first time in his entire career.
Lewis is no longer “The Jackpot”. It not because of his poor form, it is because he has failed to mesmerise his fans in the manner he once used to. His magic is no longer visible and his aggressiveness has been taken over by his confusion.
It is sad to witness an icon falling apart at the peak of his career. He has been dominating the world of darts for a while now but his focus has been shifting phases recently. He no longer appears confident on the stage.
The German Darts Championship saw Lewis giving his worst performance ever that led to his exit eventually. He seemed pretty confident before the league but failed to overcome the pressure that surrounds him these days.
He claimed in an interview that he is working day and night to become better. However, this ‘workout’ seems invisible in the tournaments.
“I am practising four or five hours a day now and getting sharp, I don't want to just keep winning the world title... mind you, that wouldn't be bad. But I want to win other tournaments,” said Lewis before the German Darts Championship.
Well, he did not win the ‘other tournaments’ he mentioned.
The World Matchplay is really dear to Lewis. He seems excited about the global darts event and has mentioned that he is picking up his old form for the Matchplay.
“I've got the World Matchplay coming up and I'm practising hard for that. My form is picking up and I'm looking forward to it,” said “The Jackpot”.
Lewis needs to understand that his consistency is the main factor that will give him an upper-hand at the World Matchplay. Consistency is what he lacks and if he does not perform at the European Darts Open, his chances at the World Matchplay will fade out.
