Adrian Lewis or Simon Whitlock? A closer look at the darts magicians before their battle!
The McCoy’s Premier League Darts enters week 14 with sizzling fixtures. This year’s Premier League Darts has been, by far, the best league that has ever taken place.
The competition has never been this fierce and the surprises that came up during the fixtures are promising an unexpected end to the darts mega event.
Simon Whitlock came in this year’s league as an under-dog and was thought to suffer in his initial playoffs against names like Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis and James Wade. “The Wizard” came out strong and gave his best play possible in the competition marking
his presence.
His win against the current world number 2 Adrian Lewis got him the ignition he needed for this year’s McCoy’s Premier League Darts. This victory got him in the top players list and spoke high of his capabilities regarding his current form.
Adrian Lewis has been invincible in the past two years. In 2011, Lewis hit a nine dart finish to win the 2011 PDC World Darts Championship in a thrilling final against Gary Anderson.
Consistency of his macular form was visible in the fall of 2011. “The Jackpot” successfully defended his World Championship title at the 2012 PDC World Championship by humiliating Andy Hamilton in the final.
Then came 2012 World Cup of Darts where Lewis teamed up with Phil Taylor to produce a killer combo. They went on reaching the finals where the Australian duo Simon Whitlock and Paul Nicholson were ready for a nail biting final.
The magical pair went into a sudden death round and with Lewis carrying his amazing form, the 2012 World Cup trophy came to England.
Lewis is up against Whitlock on May 10 in Newcastle. It is a must win for both the darts magicians as the final four will be decided in the same week.
Whitlock, nicknamed “The Wizard”, has stood up for his nickname in the past by giving shockers all over the darts world with his out of the blue victories. In this year’s McCoy’s Premier League Darts, the biggest upset came when he defeated Lewis in the
fifth week of the competition.
Lewis was world number one at that time and was awestruck with the surprise defeat by the hands of “The Wizard”. Although Whitlock had an embarrassing defeat by the hands of James Wade in the eighth week yet he won against Gary Anderson and got into the
final eight.
Adrian Lewis hit the jackpot by defeating the current world number one Phil Taylor in the eleventh week. His win against Taylor was a headline all over the darts universe as Phil Taylor was the favorite to win against Lewis.
Both Lewis and Whitlock have their pros and cons, Whitlock has literally played like a wizard and has gone in the books as the most surprising player in the competition as his win can appear at any point in the game regardless of his form.
Lewis on the other hand holds a lot of experience and magic on his part. His level of play has gone to a point where he can defeat an all time legend like Phil Taylor with tremendous ease. His game-play is aggressive and precise which speaks loud during
his games.
Adrian Lewis will continue his dominance in his face off against Whitlock on May 10 as his bag of experience and technique weighs much more than “The Wizard” by a mile.
