Adrian Menendez-Maceiras defeats Brydan Klein in the second round – Istanbul Challenger 2012 CH
World number 184th, Adrian Menendez-Maceiras, prevailed over the Aussie, Brydan Klein, in the second round of the American Express Istanbul Challenger held at the hard courts of Turkey. The Spaniard
jolted down his 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-3 win over his rival in nearly two hours and 24 minutes.
The 26-year-old Spanish professional displayed his exceptional run of form ever since he stepped on the hard courts. He nudged his challenger to clinch the initial three games in series and towered the score
line with a 3-love lead. Klein struggled hard to upset his rival and busted his serve in the fifth game but was unable to dominate him. The scores evened out to 3-all in the sixth and 4-all in the eighth game. After a tough battle, Maceiras shifted gears to
secure the last two games and marked his 6-4 score.
In the second set, both players progressed forward without facing any resistance and the 22-year-old Aussie struggled hard because he desperately wanted to bag home the winning title. However, the momentum kept
of shifting between the two parties and eventually the set ended in a tiebreaker. The Aussie emerged to the front line as a surprising winner with a 7-6(3) lead.
The right-hander Spanish professional fired four aces but had a lower initial serve of 62 percent with 20 of 26 points. In comparison to that, his Aussie rival had a better initial serve accuracy of 69 percent,
capitalizing 22 of 27 points. Both players did not receive a single serve break in the set.
Ranked 237th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Klein secured the initial lead in the decider and brought the score line to 2-love. However the winning order reversed by the end of the fifth
game, where Maceiras took a flying start to the end and did not face a break in his journey toward the end. He successfully took a rapid start on and stamped the set with a 6-3 win.
In the decider, both players attained a 59 initial serve precision, pocketing away 10 of 17 first but only three of 12 second delivery points. The higher-ranked Spanish had approximately similar initial serve
of 58 percent but he managed to capture only seven of 14 first and seven of 10 second points.
Next in the ATP Challenger Maceiras will battle against the French professional, Adrian Mannarino. The left-hander delivered a blow to the sixth seeded Russian, Igor Kunitsyn, in the second round. Currently he
is in his excellent run of form and will surely give the Spanish participant a tough time.
