Adrian Newey: Red Bull Racing team still looking to improve 2011 car – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing technical director Adrian Newey has said that they are still working to improve their 2011 car.
RBR recently won the Singapore Grand Prix and extended their lead in the constructors’ championship by 138 points.
The Red Bull team that has been lucky in majority of the races held this season, much thanks to Vettel, the team is now aiming to grab both the drivers’ and constructors’ championship titles for this season.
Newey said, “It's that time of the year now where we desperately want to get the double in the championships if we can.”
Right now, RBR are only looking at the design of the chassis and gearbox of next season’s car with their focus geared largely to the improvement of this year’s car. Whatever information they gather from this year’s car can then be used to develop a better
car for the next season with new upgrades.
To this end, the team’s technical director Adrian Newey has recently announced that he is still trying on improving the design of this year’s car for better performance in the remaining races.
RBR team principal Christian Horner acknowledged his team’s effort in pulling off consecutive victories at the Monza and Singapore circuits respectively. He appreciated Adrian’s technical expertise in coming up with a car that is well suited to drive on
all kinds of tracks.
Horner said, “It's a matter of keeping our feet on the ground; things can easily go wrong still. We're not there in the constructors' yet and we've still got five races to go. We'll continue to take each race race-by-race and try to do the best job we can
and hope that that's good enough.”
Their victory at Singapore stands a clear proof to this, as the track was no doubt the most challenging in terms of its layout and the difficult weather conditions.
Horner said, “What’s been really gratifying this year is that we've been competitive from Monaco to Monza and I think that's testimony to hard work in the team and from lessons learned last year.”
Let’s watch how the team fares in the upcoming races on the Formula 1 calendar. The next race takes place in Japan at the Suzuka circuit on October 9, 2011.
