Adrian Newey: Renault car notable, Ferrari conventional and McLaren visually good – Formula 1 news
The most successful technical director of Formula 1 history Adrian Newey has analysed the 2011 cars of the front running teams of the sport.
Newey, currently associated with the Red Bull team has said that Renault’s 2011 car, R31, is most impressive in terms of development. He further added that Ferrari and McLaren have been conventional in their car designs due to which their performance has
declined.
Newey, the man behind seven constructors’ championships, commented on the Renault team and said, “The Renault has impressed me the most. Its exhaust system is completely different to the others. I haven't analysed it deeply but the path they have taken is
completely unique and very brave, and that's always good.”
Renault’s innovative design has so far proved very effective in the 2011 Formula 1 season. For the first time, Renault are ahead of the midfield runners and trying out their luck against the front running teams like McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes.
Renault have scored two podiums in the opening two races and are currently fourth on the constructors table with 42 points. The R31 had a unique exhaust design which was copied by different teams in the pre-season testing sessions.
Newey further commented on McLaren and Ferrari and said that both have modified their 2010 chassis due to which they are not using the full potential of their cars according to the 2011 regulations.
Talking about Ferrari, Newey only said that they have “a conventional car.” Commenting on McLaren, Newey said, “They have worked hard on the sidepods, which are different, but I think the change is more visual than anything else. I think the vast majority
of teams chose to evolve their previous cars.”
The 2011 Formula 1 season continues in Spain and so far, no team has been able to come close to the roaring Red Bull team.
Even the closest running drivers of McLaren, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, have said that Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull can only be stopped by his teammate Mark Webber.
