Adrian Newey says Red Bull cannot guarantee a strong 2013 F1 season – Formula 1 news
Adrian Newey, who is the chief technical officer of Red Bull Racing, has stated that they cannot guarantee a strong 2013 F1 season despite being victorious at the end of 2012.
“We have [finished the season strongly], but that's no guarantee of anything,” Newey said. “We know what we hope to achieve over the winter but we have no idea what everybody else will achieve. We'll turn up in Melbourne and see, and that's the great thing
about Formula One, you never know.”
Meanwhile, Red Bull’s team principal, Christian Horner, has said that the team has learnt many things from the 2012 F1 season which they are going to apply in the next season.
“I think we've got such a strong group [of people], but you can always learn,” Horner said. “We learnt a lot of lessons this year and we've got to apply them.”
Horner added that the strong point of Red Bull is that they are never satisfied; whether it is the engineers, technicians or other people in production, they are always looking for areas in which the team can make improvement. He insisted that it is this
determination to improve that has made them the most successful over the last three seasons.
At the end of the 2012 F1 season, Red Bull became the fourth team to win three consecutive constructors’ championships. Red Bull’s ace driver, Sebastian Vettel, has also been winning the drivers’ title for the last three years which has made him the youngest
triple champion.
All of Red Bull’s titles have come from the cars designed by Newey who is known as a brilliant car designer among the F1 community. Previously, Horner had admitted that their car development was behind schedule since unlike other teams, they were quite busy
developing the RB8 in order to win the championship.
Newey had also admitted that they had problems with the RB8 in the beginning of 2012 as they could not understand it which was frustrating for him being an engineer. The team’s problems with the car were evident from the way Vettel struggled in the first
half of the season. However, the RB8 was the quickest on the grid during the second half.
