Adrian Newey says Sebastian Vettel wants to win 2011 championship – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing technical officer Adrian Newey has said that the team driver Sebastian Vettel wants to win 2011 championship after winning eight rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season so far.
Newey added that the German does not want to cruise to the 2011 world championship and that he really wants to earn it, as he is still leading the championship battle with 284 points.
The team’s technical officer also mentioned that Vettel showed in the 2011 Monza race that he wants to win the title fight in a different style.
Talking to Autosport.com, Newey commented, “We knew it was going to be difficult for Seb to retake the lead. Ultimately, there was always going to be an opportunity to achieve that in the pitstops with the power of the undercut. But if we couldn't do it on the undercut, it was going to be difficult.”
He added, “What's so impressive about him is that he very rarely makes the same mistake twice. He learns and he keeps confounding the critics. Last year, people were saying he's great if he gets out in the lead but he can't overtake people. People won't be saying that after the last few races.”
The team driver has won eight rounds out of the 13 races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The 24-year-old driver had a great race weekend in Italy, where he successfully finished his race at the top place after struggling on the sets of medium and soft Pirelli tyres.
His teammate Mark Webber was not able to stay at the Monza racetrack until the end of the Grand Prix. He completed 4 laps and after that, he retired from the race due to an accident.
Webber dropped down his position in the championship battle after his retirement from the Monza race. The Australian has slipped to the fourth place with 167 points in the drivers’ championship.
Let’s see how both of the drivers perform in the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix taking place on September 25, 2011 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
