Adrian Sutil: First couple of races of the 2011 Formula 1 season might be tough – Formula 1 news
According to Force India’s Adrian Sutil, the 2011 Formula 1 season’s first couple of races are not going to be easy for his team even though they are quite confident about their new car.
Force India had a pretty good run in the 2010 Formula 1 season as they finished in 7th place just 1 point behind Team Williams in the constructors’ standings.
However, the team is hoping of improving its 2010 run and as a result came up with some very innovative car designs for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Force India’s rivals including Team Williams have scored some pretty good times during the pre-season test sessions of the upcoming season because of which Adrian Sutil admitted that the new Force India VJM04 lacks pace.
“We still need to look for more speed and we require a little more time to understand the developments and aero side of the car. The first few races may be a little tough in that respect, but for sure we shall pick up our race pace soon,” he said.
Nevertheless, Sutil still believes that he has the potential to score good points at the season opening race in Australia that is expected to take place on March 27, 2011 since his car is quite reliable and reliability is more important than pace currently.
“We have a reliable car, which is positive, and this will help us during the first few races. I hope that I will be able to finish the race as last year the gearbox let us down. It is always a good feeling to finish the first race, as you then know that
the season has really started,” said Sutil.
He added that the 2010 Australian Grand Prix was ‘crazy’ as it started raining as a result of which only 10 cars were able to finish the race. That is one of the major reasons why it is important to finish in Melbourne as there is a high chance of scoring
some points only if a driver aims to race until the chequered flag.
Other than that, his teammate Paul di Resta will make his Formula 1 debut at the Australian Grand Prix and it seems that the young Scot has stopped predicting anything about the upcoming race as he claims that he is focused on having a ‘solid’ first race.
He stated that he is open-minded and will concentrate on his performance as the team is aiming for the best possible results at the season opener. It is going to be an interesting race for all of the teams as each team’s performance comparatively will make
it easier to judge each team’s capability for the upcoming season more clearly.
