Adrian Sutil dismisses rumours of replacing Schumacher in Mercedes GP
Adrian Sutil completely dismisses all the rumours suggesting his intentions of taking Michael Schumacher’s place in Mercedes GP.
A few days back many of the major sports channels and websites reported that Sutil would likely be replacing Schumacher, for Mercedes GP for the 2011 season.  However, while talking to the reports this Sunday he completely denied all such speculations, saying
that he would like to see his country man retaining his place and he has no intentions of taking his place.
The seven-time World Champion returned to the sport at the start of this year after having announced his retirement earlier in 2007. After the absence of three years the racing sensation had not been able to show his true mantle on the track and rather
gave a poor season to his team as well as his fans. The driver had only been able to do better in the last two races in Japan and Korea after having gone through a long struggling period since the start of the season. The last two rounds saw him at 6th
and 4th places respectively making the best two finishes since his comeback.
However, Sutil is of the view that it was wrong to expect that the his countryman could have made to the top right at the start of his return, as three years is a long period in Formula One and a lot has changed since he left the sport.
The Force India driver explained saying, "People expect him to be there where he ended three years ago, but that's not how Formula 1 is. It has changed and it is never easy to come back after three years… He's close and is getting better, so I suppose you
could say it's probably not been a bad comeback."
Furthermore, Sutil believes that the car that Schumacher was handed this season was not a competitive one and this was the biggest reason of his poor performances.
After all the criticism and condemnation that the racing icon has faced all through the season many believe that he would cut off the three-year contract short and would not be a part of the upcoming season. However, Sutil said that he would want to see
the hero of his country race next year as well. He still has a firm faith in the deep rooted driving talent of the legend and believes in his ability to show great racing once handed the right car.
The young German, while talking to the reports said, "Michael is going to stay there for another year at least, and I think he has a three-year contract, so that is how it is. Of course it would be great to drive for Mercedes in the future, but I think now
is just too early, and they are just rumours."
Unlike many others, the 27-year-old believes that the year has gone just good enough for the driver and he has done a pretty respectable job keeping his long absence from the sport and the car in mind. On the other hand, many of the race followers and analysts
believe that he should not continue racing now as he is only rupturing his unmatched repute and legacy. Currently, Schumacher stands 56 points adrift his teammate Nico Rosberg at ninth place in the Drivers’ Championship.
On the other hand, Sutil has given a satisfactory season to Force India, having finished 9 races in points and standing two points ahead of his teammate, Tonio Liuzzi. Although, the Indian team has time and again showed interest in retaining the driver,
yet Sutil proclaims that he is still thinking over the options.
"I just want to make sure to do the right thing, but I can't say where I am going to be," Sutil concluded saying.
