Adrian Sutil is still hoping for a race seat for 2012 season - Formula 1 news
Adrian Sutil’s manager says the driver is not worried too much over finding a race seat for the 2012 season.
Sutil had a race seat with Force India since the team came in to Formula 1 five years back. He had been performing well for the team as he helped them secure a fifth place finish for the 2011 season which has been a much improved performance for the Vijay
Mallya owned team.
“We are not panicking,” Zimmermann is quoted by Sport1. “We have until February 7, when the tests begin. It would be a strange tactic to give the names of those you are talking to. We will keep quiet with our various options and decide what makes the most
sense.”
Nico Hulkenberg replaced Sutil for the 2012 season and had been a reserve driver for the team and had been running in the practice sessions during the 2011 season.
It seems that Sutil might have only one option to go with the Williams seat which at the moment seems the only practical option. However, there is still some time for making an agreement with a different team. The manager explained that Sutil is not panicking
over his options at this point and is willing to wait for the best option available to him.
Even the Williams seat is not a sure shot for Sutil as Rubens Barrichello, Vitaly Petrov and Bruno Senna are all in contention for the seat. It also depends whether Williams is looking for a pay driver or are they looking for a better driver. It is early
time for speculation though it is clear that the former Force India driver does not have too many options available to him at the moment. He might even have to look for a reserve driver role.
If the competition for the race seat was not tough enough, Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi are now also in the hunt for a race seat, increasing the burden on Sutil to go for what is available to him. The performances of 2011 show that Sutil does have
what it takes to be in Formula 1 but the situation is a unique one, where several veteran drivers are fighting for race seats.
