Adrian Sutil not interested in testing role - Formula 1 news
Adrian Sutil has claimed that he will not settle for a testing role in Formula 1, if Force India consider someone else as their second driver. He last raced with the same team during the
2011 season, but was replaced next year by compatriot Nico Hulkenberg.
The German driver stated, “I'm a racer, not a tester. I want to race. This (Force India) is my only chance, so we are fighting for it.”
During the second of the three winter tests in Barcelona, Sutil was given a chance to get a taste of the VJM06. Although all teams came out with different strategies, yet the fastest times
set gave a little idea of where everyone is placed at the moment.
Unsurprisingly, bigger teams such as Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes and Lotus did a reasonable job and their drivers felt a lot comfortable compared to the rest.
However, the midfielders also tried their best to analyse things and gathered as much data as possible. Overall, Sutil was the 12th quickest in Barcelona, which placed him above
his main contender Jules Bianchi, who is also trying his best to fill the vacant spot at Force India.
Last year, Hulkenberg gave some promising performances with Force India and he came close to winning the final race of the season in Brazil. This proved that the team was moving in the right
direction and had the potential to fight for some decent point finishes.
However, the talented driver decided to make a move to Sauber for this season, which left a vacancy at Force India. Despite a lot of rumours about who would fill this spot, the team has yet
not finalised any name. It is believed that the announcement would be made before the start of the final preseason test in Barcelona.
There are many indications that Sutil could make a comeback as a lead driver, but he has not ruled out some other plans too. He stated, “If it doesn't work, then let's look at what else there
is in another category, but I do not think that being a test driver is right for me.”
The final test will start on Thursday, February 28, 2013 and it will be interesting to see who gets behind the wheels of the VJM06 alongside Paul di Resta.
