Adrian Sutil says that Sebastian Vettel slowed drivers too much which induced accidents – Formula 1
Force India’s Formula 1 driver Adrian Sutil has said that Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel slowed down too much under the safety car which led to accidents in the Canadian Grand Prix of the 2011 season.
Sutil, who was unable to finish his race due to a damaged suspension, received a drive through penalty when he overtook Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg under safety car condition.
Sutil stated that the Canadian Grand Prix was an opportunity for the team to score points.
He said, “This kind of race you just want to finish. Both of us had a big chance to get points, but at the same time you have to take some risks. That's what I did in the end. I was a bit unlucky in turn seven when I lost the rear and touched the wall. The
suspension broke and I had to give up.”
Sutil touched Nico’s car in the safety car condition and broke his front wing in the process. He said that Vettel slowed the proceedings down which slowed down the momentum of the race.
Sutil said, “Vettel slowed down the pack so much, and I almost had to stop. My wing was damaged but the car felt okay and my pace was still good. Then I got a drive-through penalty for overtaking Rosberg under the safety car.”
This was Sutil’s first race of the 2011 Formula 1 season in which he was unable to see the chequered flag.
Sutil is now 12th on the drivers’ championship table with 8 points. The German was behind his young teammate in the opening few races of the season but soon found his footing right and is now the leading Force India driver.
Paul di Resta is 17th on the table with just 2 points on the board which he managed in the opening few rounds of the season.
Force India are down to the bottom of the midfield teams with just 10 points in the opening seven races of the season.
