Adrian Ungur outguns Kamil Capkovic in the second round – Trnava Challenger 2012 CH
World number 105, Adrian Ungur, trounced over the local, Kamil Capkovic, in the second round of the Trnava Challenger 2012, Slovakia. The Romanian challenger summed up his straight sets victory at 6-1, 6-2 in
a total of one hour and nine minutes.
The 26-year-old, Capkovic commenced the opener but was unable to uphold his serve. The Romanian professional clinched the opportunity and grabbed the initial two games, marking a 2-love lead right away. The Slovakian
native seemed powerless in front of his competitor. Ungur broke his rival’s serve in the fifth game and gleefully wrapped the set with his 6-1 score line.
Ungur had a lower initial serve precision of 57 percent, with a remarkable point conversion rate of eight out of eight. He also snatched three of the eight serve breaks presented to him. The right-hander local
manifested 67 percent first serve presentation, clamping away 10 of 20 first and four of 10 second delivery points.
The next set proved slightly competitive for the players, 27-year-old Ungur secured the lead by breaking the right-hander native’s serve in the fourth game. He confidently progressed without any break and capitalized
his 6-2 win.
Ranked 227th in the South African Airways ATP Singles Rankings, Capkovic had a relatively improved first serve accuracy of 62 percent, bagging away nine of 16 first and four of 10 second
serve points. On the contrary, the Romanian professional had an average first serve precision of 50 percent, with nine of 13 first serve points. Fortunately, he converted two of four serve points presented to him, whereas Capkovic did not receive any.
Second seeded Ungur displayed his classic performance since the start of the tournament. Though he has never rallied past the initial rounds of the major tournaments so far, he now aims to improve his world rankings.
Previously he defeated the Nikola Mektic in the first round, showing his strong resolve to mark an emphatic ending to the running season. He will have to face a tough challenge in the next round, as he will contest against the winner for match between Damir
Dzumhur and Andrej Martin.
