Adrianna Holcek narrowly beats Ana Paula Campos in round-of-16 battle at Pan Am Junior Championships
Canada’s talented player Adrianna Holcek cheered her home crowd as she reserved her berth in Girl’s Singles U19 semi-final after beating Brazil’s Ana Paula Campos in a tight round-of-16 fight at the XXI Pan Am Junior Championships 2012 in Canada, on Wednesday,
July 25.
The in-form local shuttler had to dig into her arsenal to produce better form and remained successful in beating her Brazilian rival in a tremendous fight that took 46 minutes of attacking badminton from both sides.
The spirited Adrianna took the first game without any problem but failed to remain consistent in the second set. Nevertheless, she showed a wonderful aggression on court in the decider and won the match in rubber games with a decent margin.
The talented Ana, on the other hand, failed to play attacking badminton in opening game but proved her class in the second set by playing dominating game. However, she remained struggling in the decider and lost the match with a respectable score on the
board.
The first set was interesting as Adrianna played to her maximum potential and pushed her Brazilian opponent on back foot by taking the bird early.
The local player managed to set up a reasonable gap of 11-7 on score board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Adrianna continued her power play as she did not miss any chance to stretch her lead and ended up the game with a superb 21-13 margin on the board.
In the second game, Ana showed her impressive class as she played with precision this time and did not let her local opponent to take charge of rallies until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Adrianna tried to take control of the game but failed to break the flow of her opponent and eventually lost the second game with a tight score of 19-21.
In the deciding game, Adrianna played impressive badminton without making any mistake and took an 11-6 lead until the interval.
After the break, Adrianna remained ahead on score board while playing positive game and ended up the set with a tight score of 21-17.
Adrianna emerged as victorious in rubber sets of 46 minutes with a 21-13, 19-21 and 21-17 margin on score board.
