Adriano Galliani fears French league might takeover Serie A in the UEFA rankings
A.C Milan Vice-President, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adriano-c3773 Galliani, has expressed his concerns over the future of Italian football and fears that Ligue 1 might overtake Serie A in the UEFA rankings.
Italy, who were third in UEFA’s ranking of leagues, have drop down to the fourth spot. Previously top four teams from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 used to qualify for the UEFA Champions League but from next season they will have only three teams. UEFA
have awarded the German league with an extra place in Europe and they will have four teams featuring from the next season.
Galliani is concerned Italy might fall further down in the UEFA rankings given the rate of improvement in the French League. The Ligue 1 has improved drastically over the past few seasons and have seen revenues being increased
considerably. The Vice-President believes that Serie A is suffering a lot from pay per view revenues, as they earn half of what top leagues like La Liga and English Premier League receive. On the other hand, he believes that the new stadiums that are being
built for Euro 2016 in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 might help the Ligue 1.
Galliani said, “Thanks to the new stadiums being built for Euro 2016, I predict that the French will also overtake us. We could be competitive with equal factors and situations, but unfortunately that's not the case. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 has
the advantage that they don't have collective TV rights, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 have overtaken us thanks to the wonderful new stadiums they built for the World Cup in 2006.”
The competition for top places in French League have increased in the past few seasons and along with Champions, Lille, Olympique Marseille, Bordeaux and Paris Saint Germain have become really strong units.
The 67-year-old further added that as a result of fewer revenues, the club’s buying power have been affected. The Italian clubs are nowadays looking for cheaper players in the transfer market hence they do not get the required
quality to compete with other teams in Europe. Even the top teams, A.C Milan and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan, have not spent freely on players this season and have gone for cheaper alternatives.
