Adriano Malori and Noemi Cantele win time trial race of 2011 Italian Road Championships
Lampre-ISD team’s Adriano Malori won the time trial race of 2011 Italian Road Championships in Paterno on Sunday, June 26.
The 23-year-old Italian professional cyclist took a total of 34 minutes and 53 seconds 28.7 kilometres.
After winning the race, Malori said, “I’m really happy. Before the race everyone said I’d win easily but it was never that sure, you never get used to winning and to wear a jersey like the tricolore in the professional peloton is a huge honour for me.”
Manuele Boaro of Saxo Bank – Sungard was the runner-up with a difference of 7 seconds, while Alan Marangoni della of Liquigas-Cannondale finished in the third spot with a difference of 46 seconds.
Giovanni Visconti of the Farnese Vini - Neri Sottoli team was in good form and tried his best to take the lead in the race, but he failed and grabbed the fifth place with a difference of 1 minute and 11 seconds.
Stefano Borchi (De Rosa - Ceramiche Flaminia), Alessandro De Marchi (Androni Giocattoli) and Angelo Pagani (Colnago Csf - Inox) were in eighth, ninth and tenth places, respectively.
A group of three cyclists made their first breakaway which included Adriano Malori, Manuele Boaro and Alan Marangoni della. All of them worked together and build a lead of few second over the other cyclists.
However, Adriano maintained his pace and with the help of his team, he grabbed the first spot and took the victory, ahead of other cyclists.
He further added, “I’ve worked hard to be good for this race and want to dedicate my win to the team and a friend of mine outside of cycling that has always helped me in my difficult moments. It was a very hard race because of the hot conditions and the
strong wind.”
Previously, Adriano took the overall fifth place in Settimana internazionale di Coppi e Bartali. He also grabbed the first place in Chrono Champenois and Mediterranean Games ITT.
In the women's category, Noemi Cantele of Garmin-Cervelo won the time trial of 2011 Italian Road Championships on Sunday. The 29-year-old Noemi took a total of 39 minutes and 57 seconds to cover the distance of 28.7 kilometres.
Previously, she took the second place in 2010 UCI Road Race World Championships Women’s Time Trail and grabbed the third spot in UCI Road Race World Championships in 2009.
Silvia Valsecchi of the Top Girls Fassa Bortolo team was in the second spot with a difference of 31 seconds. Tatiana Guderzo of the SC MCipollini Giordana team tried her best to take the lead, but failed to manage the pace and grabbed the third spot with
a difference of 36 seconds.
Valentina Bastianelli (Vaiano Solaristech) was in the fifth place with 2 minutes and 36 seconds behind Noemi.
