Adriano Malori jumped up to the top overall spot after the stage 6 overall classifications
Team Lampre-ISD had a poor start to its 201 campaign but the team seemed to have found its winning ways since the team’s time trial stage 4 of the event.
The team finished 34 seconds behind the leading side, Team Garmin-Barracuda and achieved the 12th overall spot.
Adriano Malori was the team’s top cyclist with the 32nd overall spot after the final general classifications.
The Italian rode brilliantly during the 207 kilometre stage 6 of the Giro and gave a tough time to the race leader.
He finished 1 minute and 10 seconds behind the stage winner Miguel Angel and occupied the second position.
Michal Golas of Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step, Alexsandr Dyachenko of Team Astana and Cesare Benedetti of Team NetApp occupied the third, the fourth and the fifth spots respectively.
Malori failed to secure his first stage victory of the season however, the cyclist’s tremendous performance has now earned him the top overall spot after the stage 6 classifications.
He is leading the category with a healthy lead of 15 seconds over Michal Golas of Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step.
Ryder Hesjedal of Team Garmin-Barracuda is further 2 seconds behind at the third position while Miguel Angel Rubiano Chavez is holding the fourth spot.
Christian Vande Velde, Joaquim Rodriguez Oliver and Peter Stetina are holding the fifth, the sixth and the seventh positions respectively.
Adriano was delighted after winning the pink jersey and noted that his team’s support in the final 15 kilometres was tremendous and eventually earned him the top spot.
He cited, "I caught the breakaway for being a point of reference for Scarponi”.
“Our group eventually played for the stage win and maglia rosa. In the last 15 kilometers, the hills were really hard”.
“With 60km to go, I focused on conquering the pink jersey but I had a double fear: [Omega Pharma-QuickStep Michal] Golas was close to me on GC and likely to beat me with the time bonus, and in the front”.
“There was Rubiano who – I imagined – was at ease in the steep climbs. To get the pink jersey, I've given even more strength than I had".
Adriano is now optimistic to continue his dominance at the coming stages of the Italian race.
