Adriano de Souza takes down Travis Logie to clinch Round 4 spot at Billabong Rio Pro
Brazil’s Adriano de Souza put on a superb performance to get the better of South Africa’s Travis Logie in the 12th heat of Billabong Rio Pro’s Round 3 that took place at the main event site of Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Tuesday
afternoon, May 15.
With his success in Round 3, De Souza confidently advanced through into the fourth round of the latest stop of the 2012 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Title Series, removing his rival Logie from the contention for the event title in the
process.
The latest day of the competition continued to cut off heads with its Round 3 heats, putting the world’s beat surfers in man-on-man heats to fight it off for the Round 4 spots on offer. The three-to-five foot barrels on offer acted an ideal canvas for the
surfing phenoms to exhibit their stylish skills and entertain the massive crowd in attendance at the primary event site with their powerful performances.
After delivering a heavy dose of superb action throughout the day, the third round eventually came down to its final heat, pitting De Souza against Logie in a battle for survival. Both the surfers looked as intimidating as ever and were expected to push
their limits to try to get into the next round.
As the 12th heat got underway, De Souza got off to an excellent start, locking a juicy wave in the opening minutes of the battle to pull off a combination of powerful turns, earning a 7.93 from the judges for the effort. He continued to navigate
his way through the waves, collecting a handful of ordinary scores off them before going big on his second business-wave just past the mid-way stage. Throwing another array of exquisite tricks, the Brazilian surfer added 7.17 points to his account to get to
a heat-total of 15.10 points.
Logie caught plenty of waves during the course of the event as well, but failed to squeeze them for a really good score. Earning a 6.17 off his first business-wave and immediately backing it up with a 5.60-point ride, the South African surfer finished with
a heat-total of 11.77 points. This consequently led him to surrender victory and thus the Round 4 spot to De Souza.
