Adrianti Firdasari advances in the round of 16 after beating Hsiao Ma Pai in the Swiss Open GP Gold 2011
Indonesia’s Adrianti Firdasari defeated Hsiao Ma Pai of Chinese Taipei in the women’s singles and booked her place in the round-of-16 of Swiss Open GP Gold 2011, on Wednesday, the 16th of March. The Indonesian consumed 51 minutes to beat Hsiao
Pai in a thrilling three-set match that remained very tight till the last point. In the next round, Adrianti will meet either Inthanon Ratchanok of Thailand or Ji Hyun Sung of Korea.
The Indonesian kept trailing behind Hsiao in the first set as Taipei’s shuttler played a well planned game by controlling the rallies and dictating the pace of the bird. At the one-minute interval, Hsiao was leading the game with a good margin of 11-7. After
the interval, Adrianti matched the speed of opponent and reduced the gap by reaching at 11-13.
The Taipei lady again increased her speed by playing an attacking game that earned her four consecutive points and the score reached at 17-11. The Indonesian failed to bridge the gap and lost the opening set with a 16-21 margin, in just 16 minutes.
Adrianti played very well in the second set by employing strong pushes, spinning net strokes followed by powerful smashes. At the interval, the Indonesian was ahead of the opponent at 11-8. In the second half of the set, Adrianti maintained the gap by playing
at her best speed. She levelled the match by winning the second set in 17 minutes with a 21-18 margin.
The third and final set of this thrilling match was full of excitement as both shuttlers were moving with equal pace and reached 10-10, where the Indonesian executed a powerful down the line smash and got a slight lead of 11-10 till the 60-second break.
After the interval, the contest remained close as the quality of the game improved from both sides.
Hsiao was trailing behind the Indonesian at 11-19, where Adrianti became more aggressive and scored the remaining points in a row. She won the third set in 18 minutes with a respectable margin of 21-17. The final score of this 51-minute long match was 16-21,
21-18 and 21-17.
