Adrianti Firdasari secures her place into the quarter-final of Singapore Open Premier Super Series
Indonesia’s Adrianti Firdasari has secured her place in the Women’s Singles quarter-final after beating Chinese Taipei’s Tzu Ying Tai, in the second round of the Singapore Open Premier Super Series 2011, at Jakarta, Indonesia, on Thursday, June 23.
World number 35, Firdasari pleased the home crowd by displaying top class badminton and won the match in three games.
In the first set, it was Tzu Ying who dominated the game by playing to her full potential in the opening half of the game. She manipulated all her opponent's weak spots by placing fascinating strokes at the net and forced Firdasari to lift the bird high in the air, which helped her in hitting powerful smashes. At the interval, the Taipei shuttler was ahead at 11-10.
After the break, the Indonesian shifted to a more aggressive mode and levelled the score as her opponent made a few errors at the crucial stage of the game. However, the Indonesian also made mistakes at the ending points and lost the game by a close score of 19-21, in 20 minutes.
Firdasari made an impressive comeback in the second game by playing near-flawless badminton. She changed her tactics and started to play safely without targeting the side lines of the court to avoid mistakes. Her new strategy worked really well and she remained successful in leveling the match by grabbing the second game 21-14 score, in 19 minutes.
In the final game, Firdasari, who was enjoying the support of the huge crowd at the indoor stadium in Jakarta, tamed her opponent by playing a superb game. Tzu Ying failed to continue her positive play against the aggressive Indonesian, who was moving in all areas of the court with an incredible speed. The Taipei shuttler failed to find gaps in her opponent’s court to execute her strokes.
The Indonesian gave the crowd plenty to cheer about when she won the third set with a 21-14 margin, in just 15 minutes. The final score of this 54-minute entertaining battle was, 19-21, 21-14 and 21-14.
