Adrianti Firdasari stuns Petya Nedelcheva in Women’s Singles Group O at London Olympics
Indonesia’s talented shuttler Adrianti Firdasari showed a terrific performance when she gave a shocking treatment to her higher ranked rival Petya Nedelcheva of Bulgaria in Women’s Singles Group O contest at the London Olympics 2012 on Tuesday, July 31.
The spirited Firdasari, who is currently World Number 64 in Women’s Singles category, put up a phenomenal show of top quality badminton and overpowered the World Number 19 Petya who was the 15th seed in the tournament.
The lower ranked Firdasari showed her tremendous skills on court as she played in a commanding manner and overpowered her Bulgarian rival in straight games with a wonderful margin on score board.
On the contrary, Petya was shocked with the stunning performance of her lower ranked Indonesian rival as she could not match the pace of rallies and eventually bowed down to Firdasari without putting up strong resistance.
Firdasari was playing at her best when she put up superb show of aggressive badminton and took an early lead by pushing Petya on back foot.
The Indonesian shuttler was in tremendous form when she played at her best speed and took a remarkable lead until the end of first half.
After the one-minute interval, Firdasari continued her aggressive play without losing her focus at any stage.
In the meanwhile, Petya tried her best but failed to play positive badminton as she could not find a finishing touch in the whole opening game.
The in-form Firdasari continued putting up superb show by keeping the pace of rallies high and bagged the first game with a stunning 21-10 score on the board.
In the following game, the un-seeded Indonesian player continued her smooth ride on court as she played with precision while remaining in a commanding position on score board.
The impressive Indonesian was leading the second set with a reasonable margin until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Firdasari did not show any respect to her higher ranked Bulgarian rival all the way to nail the set with a spectacular margin of 21-15.
The aggressive Firdasari emerged as victorious in a phenomenal manner against Petya in straight games with a punishing 21-10 and 21-15 score on the board.
