Adrianti Firdasari upsets Eriko Hirose in Women’s Singles first round of the Indonesia Open GP Gold
Indonesia’s spirited shuttler, Adrianti Firdasari made an upset as she defeated higher ranked Eriko Hirose of Japan in the Women’s Singles first round of the 2011 Indonesia Open GP Gold, in Indonesia, on Wednesday, September 28.
Firdasari, who is currently World Number 40 in the Women’s Singles rankings, played fabulous badminton for 52 minutes and emerged as the winner in a thrilling fight which ended in three games.
World Number 18, Hirose, who was the fourth seed in the main draw of Indonesia Open, filed to stop the passionate opponent and lost the match without any considerable fight in the third game of the contest.
The Japanese shuttler played terrific badminton in the first set of the match as she controlled the pace and manipulated all loop poles of her rival. Hirose remained miles ahead of her local opponent throughout the opening game and ended it in striking fashion.
The Indonesian failed to play positive badminton and lost the set with a huge and stunning margin of 9-21 in just 14 minutes.
In the second set, Firdasari lifted up her level of play and put forward a changed game against the higher ranked Hirose, who slowed down her speed. The Indonesian worked really well and maintained pressure on her challenger in the whole second game.
The Indonesian cheered the home fans with powerful smashes and perfect execution of spinning net shots. She won the second set in 19 minutes with the margin of 21-12.
The deciding game was a battle of nerves as both females remained close in the opening half. However, at the end of the first-half, the Indonesian was leading with an 11-8 margin. She continued her supremacy in the game after the break and showed no sign
of slowing down the pace of the rallies.
The hard work and planned game of the Indonesian helped her to clinch the final set by a 21-14 difference in 19 minutes. This remarkable fight of 52 minutes ended by a margin of 9-21, 21-12 and 21-14.
