Adrien Broner all set to defend title against Vicente Escobedo in a 12-round bout – Boxing News
Adrien Broner, the current WBO super featherweight champion, will defend his undefeated streak and title for the second time against fellow countryman Vicente Escobedo, the current WBO NABO super featherweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will be held
on July 21, 2012.
The duo will meet at the ring set up at Cincinnati, Ohio, United States and will headline the fight card. The Saturday night showdown is still under consideration and more bouts will be added with the passage of time. Broner and Escobedo recently met at
a press conference and shared their thoughts about the engagement.
Adrien, 22, is a young surging super featherweight who has in a very small age secured number one rank in World Boxing Organisation’s rankings. The Cincinnati proud has been in a total 23 bouts and boasts an undefeated streak.
Broner has nailed 19 of his opponents by knockout and possesses a pretty decent, powerful and lethal jab. Also known as ‘The Problem’, Adrien has literally created serious problems for a lot of top-notch pugilists in the division.
The orthodox lad has nailed many big names such as Vicente Martin Rodriguez, Jason Litzau, Daniel Ponce De Leon, Ilido Julio and others. Moreover, the young Ohio lad recently defended his title successfully by technically knocking out Eloy Perez in the fourth
round of the 12-round clash.
His Saturday night opponent, Vicente, 30, is also a terrific pugilist who has been in a total 29 bouts and boasts 26 wins. The Californian has pinned 15 of his opponents by knockout and though does not possess a flawless resume just like Broner yet cannot
be underestimated at all costs.
During the press conference Escobedo stated, “I’m going to take full advantage of this opportunity. It’s going to be a great fight – and I’m going to shock the world. We know he’s a great fighter. He’s fast, he has power, he’s skillful but so am I. I’m fast,
I have power, and I’m skillful too. I’m ready to adjust whatever he brings to the table. I think we have to fight him and box him. We have to do a little bit of both.”
Broner, on the other hand, boasted and just stated in a very blunt manner, “I’ve been in shape since – when did I come out, 1989? – the doctor smacked me, and I smacked him back.” The young champion further added, “After this fight, I’m going straight to
the big names at 135.”
The bout will definitely be a tough one as Adrien will not allow Vicente to break his undefeated streak whereas Escobedo needs to make a comeback to not only move up further in the rankings but defend his current third rank as well.
