Adrien Broner ready to defend title against fellow countryman Vicente Escobedo – Boxing News
Adrien Broner, the WBO super featherweight champion, will take on most probably the toughest opponent of his career Vicente Escobedo, the current WBO NABO super featherweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will be held on July 21, 2012.
The duo will headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions. The showdown will be televised live from U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States and will also witness Keith Thurman take on Orlando Lora
in a 10-round non-title welterweight bout, co-headlining the fight card.
The extravaganza will be broadcasted on HBO’s weekly Saturday night boxing show ‘World Championship Boxing’. Adrien recently shared his thoughts about the upcoming title defence bout and commented that he is totally ready and in great shape to defend his
gold for the second time in a row.
Broner, 22, is most probably the youngest ever world champion in the history of America. In such a young age the orthodox Adrien has secured first spot in World Boxing Organisation’s rankings.
In addition to the above achievements, the Ohio lad also boasts an undefeated streak in a total of 23 bouts. Adrien, also known as ‘The Problem’, has collected 19 of his total wins by sheer knockout, an aspect which shows that the Cincinnati proud is quite
a lethal finisher.
Adrien engraved his name on the vacant WBO gold after collecting a third-round knockout win over Vicente Martin Rodriguez. After that impressive win, Broner moved on and successfully defended his newly acquired title for the first time against undefeated
Eloy Perez.
While sharing his thoughts during the media interaction, Adrien shared his resolve to put forth Vicente a tough showdown. Broner stated, “As long as I train hard and as long as I'm in shape, I know none of these guys is going to beat me. Like I have said,
I keep God first, and I've got all of the skills. I've got speed, power and the boxing abilities," said Broner. My IQ in the ring is equivalent to Einstein's. I'm just saying. The world still hasn't seen the best of Adrien Broner yet. So when all of the work
is done, the only thing that I have to do is my job. I mean, what more can I say?”
Hus Saturday night opponent, Escobedo, 30, has been in a total of 29 bouts, boasting 26 wins with just 15 coming by way of knockout. Since his last loss to Robert Guerrero, the Californian proud has evolved into a tough pugilist.
In his last two bouts, Escobedo not only grabbed wins over Lonnie Smith and Juan Ruiz but also engraved his name on the vacant WBO NABO super featherweight gold.
