Question:

Adult Learning - Am I entitled to funding?

OK... So i've decided that I want to go to university to do nursing. However, I have not got the required qualifications to get into uni. So now I have to do evening classes to gain 3 more GCSEs then go on to do 3 A-levels, then i'll be able to apply for uni.

So, my point being, I am 20 years old, I am a father and am currently unemployed. I want to start my GCSEs in september but cannot afford it myself. From what I've seen, funding is given to people doing full time courses. However, I just want to do part time as I need to be working aswell to support my son.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. You could perhaps get funding for being a part time student. Have you spoken to someone dealing with financial aid at your school? You cannot just assume anything until you have spoken with someone who can help you determine whether you may receive funding or not. In the U.S., students going to school part time are eligible for financial aid in some cases.

Your best bet is to contact the school in order to find out if you are eligible for funding. Or, even if it will be owed later, you can find out if you are eligible for a student loan.
