Question:

Adult Night Terrors?

I am a 30 year old female. Don't drink, don't smoke, don't take drugs.

For the last 2-3 months I have consistently awoke within 30 minutes to an hour of going to sleep. I am terrified of something- I'll scream, thrash, my heart beats so hard it feels as if I may have a heart attack. Sometimes I feel like someone is in the house and I'll wake myself up standing in my son's bathroom- or sometimes trying to get out side (thank god for my chain lock- it keeps me in).

If I settle back to sleep I'll usually wake up again within an hour or so doing the same thing. This can happen several times a night.

I'm starting to have bumps and bruises on me from this~ I guess from getting up in the night.

I even did this while camping (in one of the largest areas of wilderness in the east) with the family over the 4th- I was trying to frantically escape from our tent to rescue our puppy (don't have one). Can you imagine? I woke my Mom up and she was like Wtf?! What puppy?

My mom says that I was always really bad to do the same when I was a child- but why is it starting now?

Does this happen to anyone else?

No I don't have medical insurance- so I doubt I'll be going to the Dr. anytime soon unless it gets serious.

  1. Wow.  It sounds like it's getting serious to me.  You need to go see a doctor because next time you might get more than a bruise or a cut.

If you don't have medical insurance then maybe you should try going to a walk in clinic.  You could tell a doctor about it and maybe they could give you something to help you sleep better.

If they can't help then maybe they could refer you to someone within your price range that could.
