Question:

Adult artistic gymnastic lessons?SERIOUS!?

I want to take gymnastics not only to learn tumbling but also to learn moves on the different apparatuses(balance beam, uneven bars, and vault). My problem is that I can only find classes for kids. The only gymnastics classes I have found only teach tumbling to my age group and not the apparatuses.

Where can I find a gym that will teach me all aspects of women's gymnastics without sticking me with a group of little kids?

Please help! Thanks, God Bless.

  1. I don't think you can. I am a competitive gymnast and I live in longmont, co. All of the gyms here only go through high school. it's possible that there is a gym for your age. i'd check on google.

  2. OMG, I can understand you very well!!

I always did a lot of sports since I was a little child. But I love so much gymnastic artistic, like you, but my problem is that I'm adult now. So I'd love learning all the gymnastic figures (flip, the floor figures, the vertical, and so on, etc, etc..) but I'm adult and the classes usually are for kids :-(

I think the best option for us is to go to ask for some private lessons in an artistic gymnastic school. Once we have the fundamentals and the basis, we could continuing in our training.

Good luck!! And contact me if you have some news about, pleeease!!

  3. Some gyms do offer gymnastics classes just for adults, but they're few and far between.  There's simply not much of a demand for it, and it's not profitable to run a class for one or two students.  If none of your local gyms have an adult class, ask if they'd be willing to start one if there was enough interest.   If they have the time and space in their gym, and a coach willing to teach adults, they may be willing to start a class if you could round up three or four other people to take it.

Another option is private lessons.  Most coaches do private lessons to supplement their income, and you may be able to find one who's willing to work with you.  Of course, private lessons aren't cheap - expect to pay around $50-75 an hour.

If you have a college or university nearby, try calling the head of the physical education department.  Many schools require their P.E. majors to take a semester of gymnastics, so they can learn the fundamentals of the sport before teaching it to P.E. students.  Some teach the class there at the college, while some bring their students to a local gymnastics club and teach them there.  The instructor may let you join in on the class.

    Good luck!
