Im a 13 year old girl, and im interested in doing community service. My idea was to tutor autistic/ learning disabled/ highfunctioning special needs children in reading and teaching them how to play the piano, but i cant find a group of parents (in my area), or an organization to get involved in!

Please...if you have any information for me...POST IT =)

Thanks!

  1. Firstly I have to commend you on wanting to be involved in a very rewarding job. You have been given some great suggestions, but have you approached the special needs school.

These special needs schools are always looking for people to volunteer their time, and this is a good way of learning about the various types of disabilities and how it affects the person, as well as getting hands on experience.

I started out as a volunteer at a local special needs school, and now a qualified Youth & Disability support worker, and sessional teacher.

    Good luck

  2. I am not an adult, but I think I can help you, I am in Girl Scouts and as you may presume we do a lot of community service. You maybe could contact the Girl Scout association in your area and maybe they might have a suggestion.

  3. Call your local autism society or such and ask if you could talk to the group for about two minutes.  Tell them of your interest and tell them you will be available after the meeting.  Another fun way to volunteer would be through Special Olympics.
