I've been riding motocross for about 11 years and am looking at getting a gsxr 600 I have no street experience. I do understand there are many differences from dirt to street, I will be taking a motorcycle safety class before I ride and the riding will be mostly city and not freeway. I am 5'9 and about 170lbs and just lookin for some good advice before I make my decision....thank you

  1. Motocross as you know, breaks bones. Road Kills.

Also, a sport bike form a dirt bike. It would be like going from a soft terrain tires to hard pack tire on your dirt bike when you ride on hard pack. Sport bike STICKS. I've done both. Dirt then road then dirt. When I went back onto dirt I forgot and/or realized that the darn front tire is never on the ground/dirt! Also, you should know this..... riding on the road is like riding with the "C" class. Have to look out for those silly people, but instead of a couple hundred pound bike .....its a couple THOUSAND pound vehicle!! Careful.

  2. Stick to the dirt, be safe us MXers die on the road, it will not take you long before your racing around on it. I've been thinking of a super moto bike, we feel more natural on it, we can't go 150, and if someone pulls out in front of us we can off road it, jump curbs, tear across a lawn what ever it takes. Be safe. I'm friends with a factory road racer with many championships, now retired but he never road a bike on the street, even though he promoted them every day of his life. Be safe.

  3. I know road and dirt are different obviously, been doing both for many years. It has been my experience that either a person can ride or they cannot. Generally a good motocrosser will do well at any type of motorcycle riding/racing. With that amount of experience you should be fine on pretty much any bike. Just understand the implications and dangers of tearing it up on the road. Save your testosterone for the MX track and use your head on the road.
