Advantage and disadvantagees of locating a sanitary landfill on a river floodplain

The first answer was good. Only thing to add is the obvious fact that a flood plain periodically floods. You wouldn't want your landfill to flood and then carry away all that garbage and what not with it.

Only advantage would be that you could ship the waste up the river to the landfill.  

With that said there are too many disadvantages to comprehend.  The main one with very far reaching affects would be that the waste will leach into the soil and groundwater and then pollute the river.  This will then pollute all downstreams parts of the river as well as the immediate area that the river is emptying into.  The degredation of waste in a landfill can form very toxic and harmful chemicals so you do not want to place it anywhere where those chemicals can impact or spread
