  1. Pros: Cheap, clean, renewable as it uses hear from the earth

Cons: it isnt suitable for all locations

  2. Geothermal is reliable and suitable as a base load power plant. It is also a fairly clean form of energy and when done properly provides a better generation capacity than other renewables. Finally, it provides heat as well as electricity in roughly equal proportions.

The problems are the limits of the technology, it only works effectively in areas where the crust is unusually hot for it's depth. It can work in other places but the generation potential is markedly reduced. There are also problems with the water picking up minerals which would then crystallise in the pipes, causing blockages. Finally, water acts as a lubricant and an aid to plastic deformation which could cause problems in tectonically active areas.

The main reasons are probably lack of research and lack of access.
