  2. advantages

-get credits out of the way

-free up your load for the next semester

    -possibly graduate early

    Disadvantages

-You have class during your summer break

I recommend taking them, especially intersession classes because then you can really crunch out credits and the class is only 4 weeks long. It goes by before you know it.

  3. I've been taking Summer I and Summer II courses for about 4 years now... I don't mind it at all.  They usually only last about 6 wks.  I think it's easier to just get them out of the way as quickly as possible!  The drawback is usually that these courses can last 4+ hours 3 times a week!!  Also, there is usually only a limited selection in courses during the summer so if you're looking for a really specific course, you may need to wait for Fall or Spring semesters.

  4. advantages: you get through your class load faster. the classes are ususally shorter (6 wks instead of say 8-10). you don't fall out of the "routine" of class.

disadvanteges: you miss out on some summer activities w/ friends/family b/c you have class that you can't miss.

at least this is how it was for me the last 2 summers i took classes. good luck!

  5. -- I LOVED taking language during the summer--more hours per week and I was able to remember more, and get better grades.  I also took public speaking/communications and that worked out well.  I had to take summer school to graduate as I was one class short, and by taking second session I was able to get additional financial aid for the whole summer (two classes in second session was "full time.").  That could be a major factor for you.

-- You don't get time off, either to relax or for internships, but if you have two summer sessions, you can do internships (probably unpaid) for one of those sessions.  I loved learning, so I liked summer school a lot.  There are also other summer programs at school that make it interesting, and you tend to meet different types of people.

  6. The courses are condensed-  so It takes less time to complete it.  But then it is a lot more work in less amount of time.

I would choose your summer classes wisely, I've taken summer courses, but usually only one, and one that I fairly would enjoy, so I could also spend time w/ friends and making some money working-- enjoy my summer.

You will get done with your degree faster which is nice, sometimes it might be more expensive though.. I pay by class so it's not for me.

I tried my first online course for this summer it worked out pretty nice, you just have to stay disciplined and try not to procrastinate becuase usually in time frame like that it is easy to get too far behind to catch yourself back up.  Good luck!  Happy studying

  7. I always saved a class that I really didn't like, or wouldn't be as easy for me to take until summer. I would take it all by its lonesome, and therefore had no other academic classes to focus on. I could unadulteradetly study/cram for this class and its tests, and it would be over in about 5 weeks. Pretty painless, and the grade was much higher than if I would have had to drag it out for 13+ weeks along with 4 other classes.

However, if it is a class that is pertinent to your degree, I do not think summer is best, because a lot of times this is a more abbreviated or abridged version of what you would normally get in a Fall or Spring academic semester.

    Hope this helped!

  8. Advantages: helps you better prepare for college next year

Disadvantages: You miss out on other things.

  9. The disadvantages are it seriously limits your summer job options and vacations.

Also, the homework load is usually the same, but condensed, so you have more to do each day.

The advantages are that you can make up a class you failed or dropped or didn't get in to so you don't fall behind in your degree requirements.

Also. it goes by fast, so when you're done you feel a bit of relief and accomplishment.  My friends have told me of summer classes being filled with people who previously failed or dropped, and they didn't tend to do well, so that made it an easier curve to get on top of with a bit of effort.

I'd personally rather have a full course load all year and have a sweet summer job or internship.

  10. con:

    They're tough and fast paced.

You've got to have a good amount of discipline to keep up with the workload.

There's not a lot of one on one time with professors (I've found)

    Stress. Stress...

    pro:

Great way to take Gen Ed if you couldn't get your classes during the normal semester.

Most colleges offer overseas/special programs for summer study.

Most of the time you can get away with not buying the textbook.

Keeps you refreshed for the return to normal semester. Keeps the momentum and all that.

Easy way to pick up a minor!
