Advantages and disadvantages of watching television?

Please give me some advantages and disadvantages of watching television. Also, how does it influence our society today.

good question.... The advantages are as follows...

I love the Discovery Channel for one...it has great shows about anything from Earth to Ancient things that are much more understanding to watch then to read. I have learned a lot from watching shows of that sort.

Disadvantages are the ones I'm sure you are familiar with such as American Idol or what not...just purely for entertainment and they corrupt the world into things unimaginable. Example...kids seeing that show or next Top Model thinking they have what it takes to become someone famous. I mean seriously...I've seen 12 yr. olds on yahoo answers asking if they are fat/cute...that's just wrong. When I was that age I was playing with legos and G.I. Joes.

So, yes it does have a positive and negative impact on people and kids and our society as a whole.
