Advertising for your franchise?

if i own a brueggers bagels or auntie annes franchise in las vegas....

am i allowed to advertise? or does the franchisor do that?

am i allowed to print paper ads and post them at local las vegas shops and stuff?

billboards? tv ads? online ads?

wouldnt they just help all franchises though.. not just mine?

i know i have to pay a % advertising fee with franchises

but can i do more on my own?

The rules vary for franchises.  For most, you would be free to do your own advertising, and the franchiser would provide you artwork to help you do that.  The problem is that it's very expensive to advertise by yourself; to buy TV or radio would be unaffordable.  Most single franchisees would limit their own advertising to locater boards.

    There can be a second level:  ADI groups.  All the franchisees in Las Vegas can come together and tax themselves to create a Las Vegas advertising fund that could be used for TV or Radio advertising.  The % you have to pay to the franchisee generally goes to national advertising.
