I've currently have a few job offers with several multi-national ad agencies in Auckland earning around 100K per year, in Vancouver I have an agency position paying about 85K, so the same, but it seems the NZ opp is actually more interesting then in Vancouver. Anyone have any thoughts on ad industry in Auckland vs. Vancouver?

I just moved from Toronto and NYC and now need to stay whether to stay here or go to Auckland. I've already worked in OZ. I find Vancouver a bit too regional and Auckland more international in the advertising field. What is the cost of living in Auckland vs. Vancouver. House is $$$ here in Vancouver and even though many are leaving NZ and housing is pricey in Auckland, for me I find it pretty cheap, much cheaper then here in Vancouver.

Cars and consumer goods cost more, but then again I think it's all relative. Only thing that that scares me a bit is reading how many people are leaving NZ for Australia, is it really tha

  1. I havn't been to Vancouver so cant make a comparison.

Auckland is definitley the best place in NZ to be working for an advertising agency.

100k in Auckland is a very good salary. You can rent an apartment in the city (1bdrm) for about $300 a week or a villa just outside the city for about $350-500 a week for 1 - 3 bdrms. Getting out to the suburbs it can be about $250 - $500 for 1 - 4bdrms.

For one person supermarket costs a week would be about $50.

Eating out is between $15 - $100 ($8 for Mcdonalds, $60 for Skytower Restaurant)

The reason a lot of New Zealanders are leaving for Aussie is because there are better opportunities in terms of work and pay. However you have already had an offer for a good job with good pay so this is not a problem. Another reason people go there is because it is warmer...but compared to Canada..NZ is VERY warm so that is also not a problem!

You will find all New Zealanders love their country, and even though a lot of us are crossing the ditch we still call NZ home.

NZers are some of the most friendly people you will meet, and even though Auckland is our biggest city you will find most people are very laid back and down to earth.
