Advertising on the internet?

Question

I'm writing a book similar in style to Alvin Schwartz's Scary Stories to tell in the Dark. I've been writing this book for at least five years now and I think it's ready to be published. I will be self-publishing the book so I'm gonna put down a good amount of money. I will also be paying for my advertisement. However, I want more. What would be the best way to advertise the book on the internet? Any ideas?

Never stick to one way of advertising:

1.SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Add to Google / Yahoo.

2.Post on free sites like http://www.sellit-right.com

3.Create a blog allow comments.

4.Put a mini banner etc on your company car.

5.Google Adwords – if you have the money PER click.

Some suggestions:

1 - Create a website for your book. Put some excerpts on your book, start a blog, put testimonials, and more importantly, put an order form or place where they can order your book

2 - Contact website owners, bloggers or webmasters of sites attracting audiences who might be interested in your book. Ask them if they are interested in reviewing your book, and send them a copy

3 - Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News.

well you COULD do everything the first guy said, as well as learn how to code and create content on the website that was engaging as well as search engine friendly - or - you could hire an internet marketing firm. ;)
