Question:

Advice: When Deciding Military branch?

I'm twenty years old with no real long term plans.

I pay for my own tuition so I can afford only one or two classes at a time; I'm not qualified for pale grants and I don't want any student loans(personal reasons).

Also, I've been working at a dead end job at a movie theatre for over a year.

And I'm living in an appartment with a roomy(I want my own place but I can't afford too).

So like yeah, I'm a little unsure with what branch I would want to go into. I don't know what I would want to do either if I were to join. Is their a test or something I could take that would categorize me in a specific job category?

  1. The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test will be a big help to see where you are qualified.  After you take that you will see what types of jobs are open to you, then you talk to the recruiters to see what branch would best suit your needs.  Personally there was no other choice than Air Force for me.

  2. Yes it is called the ASVAB.  Each branch offers something different...Why not take a day, go down to the recruiting office, usually all four branches are right there, meet with them all, see what they all have to offer, take the ASVAB, see what you qualify for and what is available to you, and then make yoru choice?

  3. I would say join the Air Force. But it all depends what you like to do.

  4. The ASVAB only tells you what you may qualify for, it doens't tell you what you would like.

    Do some research on each branch and decide for yourself.  These links can get you started on the Coast Guard;
