Question:

Advice about getting an invention to market.?

I have what I think is a practical invention that should be reasonably simple to build. It is a physical item. I would like to get a patent for this and move forward. I've never done this before and would appreciate advice. I've heard about all of those infomercial places though I have to believe there is a more intelligent way to go about getting a patent and bringing an invention to market. Please help.

  1. I can't help you with the patent end of things but in terms of actually promoting your product you really have to get educated.  I was in a similar situation trying to promote a product that I actually created, and it is literally impossible to get the word out these days.  I ran into a marketing course that literally saved my business, and I am now making a full time six figure income from my product, no joke.  I highly suggest you check it out.

  2. First, stay away from the companies that advertise to submit your invention. Second, there is a saying that says, "A patent is one thing but distribution is everything." Over 95% of patented products never earn a dime of profit because having a patent doesn't guarantee a product that will sell. Distribution - getting your product in stores or wherever you sell it - is the thing that makes or breaks a product.  Third, a patent does not guarantee someone won't steal your product - patents can be beat by a clever person and even if someone copies your product exactly, you still have to take them to court, which takes years and years and thousands of dollars. So instead of focusing your time and money on a patent, focus it on getting the product made and showing it to buyers in stores.
