  1. Assuming you are based in the Uk, contact your early years service provider for the best advice. Other than that, contact OFSTED to apply for registration, and then think about advertising your service, staffing it and what resources and equipment you will need.

Check the Early years foundation stage for guidance regarding what you should be providing for the children in terms of activities.

Best of luck and please edit your question if you need specific advice, especilly if you are UK based as i may be

    able too help you further.

  2. First, check with the licensing agency in your state. Some require half day programs to be licensed, some do not. Gryphon House Press is an excellent source of books about Early Childhood programs. There may be a local chapter of the National Association for the Education of Young Children in your area and the members may be able to help. Also contact Community Development or Economic Development in your area. There may be mentoring programs designed to help small businesses. If you are thinking of serving the traditional 3 and 4 year old population be aware that the trend to public school pre-k is having a negative impact on the traditional programs all over the country and you may need to do Mommy and Me or mini-day programs for 2's.

  3. Check out all the licensing procedures in your state. Including health, fire and insurance.

  4. In America?  Contact your local job and family services who can hook you up with a licensing specialist in your area.  They will give you step by step directions to doing just what you want to do - opening up  1/2 day preschool. Good luck
