We have a ford mondeo ST200, but the radiator had been losing water and over heating, which we topped up. We also think that the exhaust manifold is broke to as its really loud. And when we went out in the car on Friday it started smoking when we checked the oil it was low, so we topped it up, we drove the car home very slow, but we had to keep stopping to top the oil up.

Can anyone tell us what is wrong with the car and how much it would cost to repair it.

Also the main thing about 6 months ago we paid £1600 to have LPG put on the car, we didnt have any problems with the car before this was put on.

  1. At the very least, you have head gasket failure - at worst, more complex engine problems.

Budget at least £500, but don't be surprised if you get a £1,000 - plus bill.

You can't blame the LPG conversion, that shouldn't make any difference, as I assume it was running OK up until now.

A complication is that you may have difficulty finding someone to work on the engine without removal or at least emptying of the LPG system.

Thought I'd seen another post from you - according to that, it's been running fine & you've now had the conversion over eight months... You'd have had more problems if this was due to the LPG.

As soon as you start losing water or oil, you should get the fault sorted - you have most likely caused head damage by overheating, leading to the situation you're in now - expensive.

Think carefully, I've recently bought an IMMACULATE 2000 'X' reg ST200 with FSH for £600.

  2. the exhaust manifold is broken as its probably got a crack on it as its the same one on the car as the one when it was brand new and the oil and water is probably down to the head gasket going which isnt a cheap repair and the lpg has got nothing to do with any of the problems youre experienceing with the car hope this helps
